Happy Valentine’s Day with the good luck gift of an Indalo

Let the power of the Indalo bring luck in love

Something special for Valentine’s Day

A gift of an Indalo can say “I love you”

Dublin in Ireland has long been associated with love and romance. Irish poets and authors such as Yeats and Shaw, drew upon Dublin’s romanticism to write some of their best lines. And it is in the Carmelite Church on Whitefriar Street in Dublin that you will find the resting place of Saint Valentine, the patron saint of love – and, of course, of St Valentine’s Day.

Do you know someone who could benefit from some special wishes on Valentine’s Day?

But the celebration of the love and romance depicted or represented by St Valentine is celebrated in many parts of the world: In China, for example, Valentine’s Day is on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the Chinese calendar. This is the day that the 7th daughter of the Emperor of Heaven was separated from her orphaned lover. Legend says that this daughter was forced to move to a star named Vega and so her lover moved to Altair, a nearby star. They are only allowed to meet once a year on the 7th day of 7th lunar month. So, on Chinese Valentine’s Day, lovers go to the temple of Match-Maker and pray for their love and happiness and hope that it will result in marriage.

Another bit of folklore associated with the world of romance, courtship and Velentine, involves the dove. Doves have been thought of as magical birds for thousands of years and they were often used to divine the future. (Unfortunately, the heart of a dove was often used as an ingredient in love potions.) But if you see a white dove fly overhead it is supposed to bring good luck. If you dream of a dove it is a sign of future happiness. And, so the saying goes, if you see the first dove of spring, and make a wish, then that wish will come true. (This is much the same as wishing on a falling star.)

We also have hand-crafted lucky charms which come from Almeria in southern Spain close to where the original Indalos were discovered. This is a region of ancient culture believed to be the origin of the Neolithic civilisation that spread up into the whole of northern Europe between 4000 and 2000 BC – and the beginning of a megalithic era that was one of the great periods of Spanish and European history and included the construction of the mystical monuments of Stonehenge and Avebury in Britain. Cave paintings of Indalo-type shapes mingle with representations of suns, spirals, animals and labyrinths, each with their own mystical and esoteric meaning.

The Indalo shape (whether it be classical like Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, or spiritual as in the Rainbow Warrior of the ancient North American Indian Cree tribe), is a popular symbol (like the clover leaf, horseshoe, or ladybird) used to pass on good luck sentiments to friends and family.
