Good luck wishes on Mothers Day

Lucky Indalos can say “Thank you” on Mother’s Day

For many years, the Sunday in the middle of Lent was reserved so that children and young people living away from their parents could go home for the day, taking presents such a cake for their mother, and sharing a meal with their family. Traditionally, this was the day on which offerings were made at the high altar of the mother-church, and, because of this, visits were made to mothers on this “Mothering Sunday.” This day was particularly important for apprentices, live-in farm-workers, and girls who were in service in big households or estates, and it was generally accepted that they could have a day off as holiday and to celebrate this” Mother’s Day “

Would your mother like a special gift, something unusual on Mother’s Day? A gift with real meaning?

In Britain (the United Kingdom), Mothering Sunday is on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday in March – although the style of celebration can var from region to region. For example, in the county of Lancashire, Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday is also called Simnel Sunday because the people eat simnel cakes which are normally reserved for Easter Day (which is between March 22 and April 25). But at least half the world celebrates Mother’s Day in May (usually the second Sunday of May). The French celebrate Mothers Day on the last Sunday in May – when the entire extended family gathers around the table for dinner, and at the end of the meal a beautiful cake is presented to ‘Maman’

In Afro-American culture, Lemanja or Yemanja is a sea goddess. She is ‘the ocean’, and the essence of motherhood. She is the patron deity of women, especially pregnant women and the mother of all saints. In Brazil, Cuba and Haiti, she is the mother of all living things as well as the owner of all waters. Her number is 7 (a tie into the 7 seas), her colours are blue and white (representing water), and her favourite offerings include melons and molasses. Her festival takes place around New Year.

The Indalo shape (whether it be classical like Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, or spiritual as in the Rainbow Warrior of the ancient North American Indian Cree tribe), is a popular symbol (like the clover leaf, horseshoe, or scarab) used to pass on good luck sentiments to friends and family.

Our lucky charms come from Almeria in southern Spain close to where the original Indalos were discovered. This is a region of ancient culture believed to be the origin of the Neolithic civilisation that spread up into the whole of northern Europe between 4000 and 2000 BC – and the beginning of a megalithic era that was one of the great periods of Spanish and European history and included the construction of the mystical monuments of Stonehenge and Avebury in Britain. Cave paintings of Indalo-type shapes mingle with representations of suns, spirals, animals and labyrinths, each with their own mystical and esoteric meaning.
